Bhubaneswar: The Railway Protection Force (RPC) arrested one person and seized 48 berth chains during a raid near Birapurusottampur railway station in Odisha’s Puri district on Wednesday.
The arrested has been identified as Sukanta Nayak (22), a resident of Panasahi in Birapurusottampur area. The total value of the seized chain is Rs 5,760, according to an ECoR release.
Nayak had hidden the chains in bushes inside abandoned quarters near the railway station, it added.
The case pertains to January 8 incident in Puri-Hatia Tapaswini Express when passengers found chains supporting the middle berths in the S-6 coach missing, after boarding the train at Puri. An additional compartment was then attached for the affected passengers at Bhubaneswar railway station.
