OnePlus Teases Invisible Cameras With New Smartphone

Ahead of CES 2020, OnePlus is all set to throw the covers off the new Concept One smartphone. The phone has a special ‘invisible’ rear camera which is covered by an electrochromic (color-shifting) glass, to reveal the rear camera lenses hidden behind the clean glass body.

The lenses and the LED flash will be visible only when the camera app is in use.

“The name itself, Concept One, is a clear promise that this device is only the first in a series to come and shows our commitment to applied, innovative technology – bringing users an ever smoother, faster, and more “burdenless” experience. The OnePlus Concept One, demonstrates a vision of both new technology and alternate design approach for the future of smartphones,” the company stated.

The technology for the glass is same as the one used in the aviation and luxury car industries. Windows of the Boeing 787s and McLaren 720s have this tech.

The glass uses organic particles to create various shades of color when connecting to an electrical field. The light transmitting changes when a different voltage is applied. This makes the glass shift from transparent to translucent.
