Bhubaneswar: Online booking for High Security Registration Plates (HSRPs) in Odisha has commenced for several companies on the website of Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), http://siam.in

Online booking for vehicles of all companies will open by the end of June 1, the State Transport Authority (STA) said.

SIAM India had informed on Monday that online service to book HSRPs and colour-coded stickers for vehicles registered in Odisha will be available on its website by the end of June 1, 2022.

The state government has made HSRPs mandatory for all classes of old vehicles registered prior to April 1, 2019. HSRPs on old vehicles will be affixed by vehicle manufacturers through their authorised dealers. Vehicle owners are free to choose any dealer, place and date for affixing HSRPs.

In a notification, the STA has stated that vehicle owners will be given at least 3 months from the date of issue of order to fix HSRP on old vehicles. It has set different deadlines for vehicles as per their registration number, which has created confusion among vehicle owners.

Here’s how you can make online booking for HSRPs:

* Register your name and e-mail ID on the portal siam.in

* Mention type of vehicle (2-wheeler, 3-wheeler or 4-wheeler), company name

* The portal will direct you to the vendor/dealer where you can avail it and its location near your residence

* Make online payment and you will be given a date when you have to go and fix it

For all vehicles except two-wheelers, three plates will be fixed.

The first plate will be fixed in front of the vehicle, the second on back side and the third on the windshield of the four-wheeler. There will be no third plate for two-wheelers.

The plates will be fixed in irreversible process so that it cannot be removed without breaking it. Thus theft of vehicles will be brought down.

Besides, each HSRP will have a laser code which will be linked to vehicle database. As a result, if the vehicle is stolen, its number plate can be changed but laser code cannot be tampered with.
