Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police has successfully traced and reunited 5,451 missing women and children with their families under Operation Anweshan 2 in just 10 days.

The state-wide initiative has brought relief and joy to thousands of households, reaffirming the police force’s commitment to safety, justice and compassion, the department informed on social media on Thursday.

Operation Anweshan 2 was carried out under the guidance of DGP Y B Khurania, who emphasised the importance of prioritizing vulnerable groups and ensuring their safe return.

Teams across all districts of Odisha worked tirelessly, coordinating with local police stations, child welfare committees and women’s organisations to trace missing individuals. The effort combined meticulous investigation, use of technology, and community outreach to achieve results on an unprecedented scale.

According to officials, the rescued individuals included children who had strayed from home, women who had gone missing under distressing circumstances, and victims of trafficking or exploitation. Each case was handled with sensitivity, ensuring that the rescued persons were not only reunited with their families but also provided necessary counselling and support.

Police highlighted that the operation was not just about numbers, but about restoring dignity and hope to families torn apart by absence.
It also underscored the importance of collaboration between state agencies, NGOs and civil society in addressing complex issues like trafficking, child safety and women’s security.

Police assured that follow-up measures are being taken to monitor the welfare of those rescued, and preventive strategies are being reinforced to reduce future cases of disappearance.
