Bhubaneswar: The State Assembly was adjourned till 3 pm on Monday over the issue of alleged sexual abuse of an HIV-infected girl in a childcare home and the rape of a minor girl in Angul.
The issue cropped up during the zero hour.
Raising the issue, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Narasingha Mishra and his party colleague Santosh Singh Saluja said the HIV-infected girl of Balangir district was staying at Prayash, a special home for the special care of the HIV infected children, which is managed by the Vision, an NGO, at Bhawanipatna. But the director of the Vision allegedly sexually abused the girl. They demanded exemplary action against the head of the home.
Participating in the discussion, leader of the Opposition Pradipta Naik raised the issue of the rape of a minor girl in Angul.
Referring to the missing children, Naik wanted to know as to who was behind the racket. The state government must come up with a clarification on whether these missing children are being engaged in the flesh trade or their vital organs have been taken out.
As Speaker Surya Narayan Patro gave his ruling, the Opposition Congress and BJP members rushed to the well of the House demanding a further discussion on this matter.
Unable to run the proceedings, the Speaker adjourned the House till 3 pm.
Talking to mediapersons after the meeting, Congress chief whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati said the statement of the Chief Minister in the House regarding the law and order situation in Odisha had no meaning. “These incidents are a clear indication that the state government had failed to maintain law and order and safeguard the safety and security of the minor children and women. We demand the resignation of the Chief Minister,” he added.
