Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area is likely to form northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal around August 13, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Friday.
A cyclonic circulation also persists over Bangladesh & west Bengal coasts and adjoining areas of northwest Bay of Bengal, according to the midday bulletin.
According to the weather agency, heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Puri district on August 8. Heavy rain along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Cuttack, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar and Sundargarh.
On August 9, heavy rain along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may continue at one or two places in Gajapati and Ganjam districts.
There is also a warning for thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Nayagarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri on August 8-9.
Thunderstorm activity is likely to continue for the next 2 days at one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati.
Heavy rain may again resume thereafter.
On August 12, heavy rain along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is likely at one or two places in Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri and Rayagada districts. Thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj,Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Nabarangpur.
On August 13, heavy rain may continue at one or two places in Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Sundargarh districts.
On August 14, heavy rain is also likely at one or two places in Keonjhar and Sundargarh.
There will be no large change in the weather conditions during the subsequent 3 days, the IMD added.
