Orange Alert: Intense Spell Of Rain Likely In 14 Odisha Districts Till 6.30PM

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange warning for 14 districts of Odisha till 6.25 pm on Sunday.

Moderate rain/thundershower with one or two intense spell of rain is likely in some parts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Angul, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghput and Gajapati in 3 hours. The weather agency has warned of waterlogging in low-lying areas, and occasionally poor visibility and traffic disruption in urban area.

Yellow warning of light to moderate rain/thundershower with lightning has also been sounded for some parts of Puri, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Rayagada. People have bee advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.

Notably, the IMD has forecast fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall activity with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Odisha during next five days. Lightning activity is also likely during next two days.

On Sunday, heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is likely at isolated places in Angul, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Boudh, and Kandhamal. Heavy Rainfall (7 to 11cm) may also occur at isolated places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Cuttack, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sonepur, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur. Yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning has also been issued for isolated places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Bargarh, Angul, Dhenakanl, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Boudh, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangpur, Kalahandi, Raygada and Sonepur, according to the midday bulletin.
