Orange Warning: Heavy Rainfall, Hail With Gusty Wind To Lash Odisha Till Tomorrow Morning

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to see a fall in thunderstorm activity from Monday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Sunday.

The MeT office has issued orange warning for thunderstorm with lightning, hail and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph for one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Balangir, Nabarangpur, Nuapada and Kalahandi till 8.30 am on Monday. Heavy rainfall is also likely at one or to places in Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nuapada and Nabarangpur during this period with light to moderate rain at many places in interior Odisha and a few places in coastal Odisha.

The IMD has sounded yellow warning for the remaining 4 days.

On May 1, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is likely at one or two places in Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh and Sambalpur. There is also a forecast for light to moderate rain across Odisha.

On May 2, thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati,Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Sundargarh. Light to moderate rain is also likely at a few places in North interior Odisha, South Odisha and at one or two paces in the remaining parts of the state.

On May 3, thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati,S onepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal with rain at few places across Odisha.

On May 4, thunderstorm with lightning is likely at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar. Light to moderate rain is also likely at a few places in North Coastal Odisha, South Odisha and at one or two places in the rest districts during this period.

There will be no large change in the day temperature during the next 4-5 days, it added.

Notably, a low pressure area is expected to develop over south Bay of Bengal area around May 5. There is a possibility that the low pressure area may intensify into a depression, IMD Director-General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said on Saturday.
