Orissa HC Orders One-Time Age Relaxation For Police Constable Recruitment
Cuttack: In a relief to the aspirants for constable posts in Odisha Police, the Orissa High Court has ordered one-time relaxation in their age limits.
The High Court issued the order on Tuesday after hearing the petition filed in this connection after the state government released an advertisement on December 30 last year, seeking applications to fill up constable posts.
Before the release of the advertisement, chief minister Naveen Patnaik had announced that the government would fill up 4,790 constable posts in 34 police districts in the state and the Commissionerate Police.
Meanwhile, some aspirants moved the High Court seeking its intervention in recruitment process. They pointed out that since no recruitment to the posts was done by the government for 4 years, maximum age limit should be relaxed.
After hearing the petition, the court ruled that the age limit would be relaxed by four years as no selection process was held for the posts from 2018 to 2022 due to COVID pandemic. But it pointed out that the age relaxation would be for one time and there would be no further consideration on the matter.
With this order, the last date for submitting applications for constable posts has been extended from January 21 to February 10 while the examinations will be held on February 20.
