Orissa HC Rejects Petitions Challenging Govt’s Allotment Norms For Liquor Shops

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Wednesday rejected the petitions of liquor vendors on the state government’s allotment process of liquor shops.

Rejecting the petitions, a bench of the High Court stated that it did not want to interfere in policy matter of the state government. The petitions filed by 20 vendors had challenged the new norms set by the government in allotment of liquor shops.

As per the new norms, allotment of liquor shops will be made through lottery instead of auctions.

In order to participate in the lottery process, the government asked the applicants to deposit a non-refundable amount of Rs 1,00,000.
