Cuttack: Odisha High Court on Tuesday granted conditional bail to Staff Selection Committee (OSSC) member’s former secretary Biranchai Narayan Sahu.
Sahu was arrested by Vigilance sleuths in a case of graft for allegedly amassing disproportionate assets amounting to over Rs 3.51 crore and other valuables.
Conditional bail was granted to Sahu on the basis of his affidavit that he would be available to the investigators whenever his presence is sought and that he would not tamper with evidence.
Officials in the Vigilance Directorate have said Sahu’s disproportionate assets constituted 268 per cent of his known sources of income. The sleuths had raided his assets at six places in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack including his double-storied residence at Niladri Bihar in Bhubaneswar on the allegation that he had amassed ill-got money.
Sahoo’s assets included 14 plots in Bhubaneswar, Puri, and Khurda, insurance deposits worth over Rs 56 lakh, cash worth over Rs 25 lakh, and gold ornaments worth Rs 60 lakh.
His wife Sudhanshubala Sahu, an insurance agent, also obtained conditional bail from the court on August 17.
