Cuttack: In a significant ruling, the Orissa High Court imposed a ban on the use of laser lights in Cuttack city.
While hearing a case pertaining to civic issues, the High Court also imposed restrictions on excessive lighting and sound systems, to address public safety, noise pollution, and health concerns.
The HC has Cuttack DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo, who deposed before the court through videoconference, to ensure the strict implementation of the ban on laser lights.
This apart, the court restricted night-time procession after 10 pm, limiting decorative or excessive lighting in public and private spaces during late hours to reduce pollution, energy waste, and disturbances to residents.
The use of DJs with excessive lighting and high-decibel sound has also been regulated, particularly during public events and marriage processions.
These orders appear to build on earlier court interventions related to festival celebrations like Durga Puja and Dussehra, where similar curbs on laser lights, DJs, firecrackers, and tall illuminated structures were imposed for safety.
