Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Wednesday directed to take necessary steps for amendment of the Acts for conducting the election to the urban local bodies (ULBs).
Hearing a writ petition filed by Hemant Rath, Justice CR Dash has issued the order stating that though the terms of the urban local bodies have been completed for two years, fresh election has not been conducted so far.
On the petitioner’s plea that de-limitation of wards and reservation of seats have not been completed yet, the court directed the state government to start the process for amendment of necessary Acts for the purpose as expeditiously as possible.
It may be noted that the writ petition was filed in the High Court in December 2019 citing delay in holding the election to urban local bodies.
