Puri: The Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (ORMAS) will take over the responsibility of single window sales counter at Swargadwar cremation ground in Odisha’s Puri town.
On the initiative of Puri district collector, the ORMAS signed an agreement for management and sale of different items used in cremation rituals with Swargadwar Seva Samiti on Saturday. Puri deputy collector Bhabata Charan Sahu on behalf of the Samiti and deputy CEO of ORMAS signed the pact.
Speaking to media persons on the agreement, chairman of Puri Zilla Parishad Jyoti Shankar Mohapatra said it would help the families, coming to Swargadwar for cremation of their loved ones, get all the materials of high quality at reasonable rate.
Besides, several self-help groups (SHGs) would benefit from the initiative as they would supply their products to Swargadwar. The process of selection of the SHGs for the purpose has been completed and they have been sanctioned loans as incentive, he added.
The deputy collector said the agreement would strengthen the single window counter at the Swargadwar.
For smooth management of the sales counter, a workshop was organised with participation of volunteers of Swargadwar and employees of ORMAS on the occasion. The ORMAS counter is scheduled to start operation from August 15, sources said.
