Los Angeles: Despite the COVID-19 pandemic gloom, the glamorous Oscar award ceremony took place with full aplomb and show on April 25. The celebrities joined in from two locations in Los Angeles as they celebrated and honoured the brightest stars of the year gone by.
Unlike other years, the Oscars ceremony was held on Monday morning, with no host, no audience, nor face masks for nominees taking part in the 93rd Academy Award.
Chloé Zhao won the Best Director, making her the first woman of colour, and the second woman ever, to win the coveted award. Nomadland also won the Best Picture award, as well as Best Actress for Frances McDormand. Anthony Hopkins, surprisingly, won the Best Actor award for The Father, pipping the favourite late Chadwick Boseman.
