Cuttack: The Odisha Secondary School Teachers’ Association (OSSTA) on Tuesday demanded Rs 50 lakh insurance cover for each teacher engaged in the evaluation of the annual Matric examination papers.
Talking to mediapersons here, secretary of the Association Prakash Mohanty said the state government should announce an insurance cover of Rs 50 lakh for each teacher since they have been asked to join the evaluation duty amid the COVID-19 outbreak.
Referring to the decision taken by the Board of Secondary Education that more than one teacher will evaluate the same paper, he said by doing this, there is a possibility of the spread of the virus. “The decision taken by the Board is a gross violation of the social distancing guidelines. We demand that one teacher be allowed to evaluate one paper,” he pointed out.
The Association has demanded more centres for the safety of the teachers.
“If the state government is unable to meet these demands, let the teachers be allowed to evaluate the papers at their home,” Mohanty added.
