Outgoing Governor SC Jamir Leaves Odisha
Bhubaneswar: After completing his tenure as the Governor of Odisha, Dr SC Jamir on Saturday left the state with his wife Alemla Jamir for Nagaland in a special flight after being given the Guard of Honour at the Biju Patnaik International Airport in the state capital here.
Jamir was given the Guard of Honour by the two platoons of police force of the commissionerate police.
Among others, Police Commissioner YB Khurania, Finance Minister Sashi Bhusan Behera, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Bikram Keshari Arukh and BMC Mayor Ananta Jena were present at the airport.
A day before the departure of Jamir from Odisha, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had a courtesy visit to Raj Bhawan on Friday where he had an informal meeting with him.
A veteran Congress leader and former governor of Maharashtra and Goa, Jamir was sworn-in as the governor of Odisha on March 20, 2013.
The octogenarian leader had succeeded Murlidhar Chandrakant Bhandare, whose tenure had ended on August 20, 2012 last year but had been continuing in office till Jamir’s appointment.
Regarded as the architect of modern Nagaland, Jamir was also the chief minister of the north-eastern state five times.
The President of India Dr Ramnath Kovind had appointed Bihar Governor Satya Pal Malik to take additional charge of Odisha Governor after the completion of tenure of Dr Jamir ended on the opening day of the budget session of the Odisha Assembly on March 20.
Following the President’s directive, Mallick was sworn-in as the new Odisha governor on March 21.
