Bhubaneswar: More than 1,200 students of different schools participated in the 8th Mini Marathon of Sainik School and OMC in Bhubaneswar on Sunday.
Organised by Old Boys Association (OBA) of the Sainik School, around 600 cadets of Sainik School, 200 OBEANS and 400 students of Sahodaya Schools Complex, Bhubaneswar chapter and government schools participated in the event with enthusiasm.
The event was a collaborative effort of the OBEANS of Sainik School, Bhubaneswar and the Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) to spread the message of “Clean, Green and Healthy Bhubaneswar” with the spirit of ‘Run for Fun’.
The mini marathon was flagged off by Commodore Mahesh Rahangdale, Deputy Director General, NCC Directorate Odisha, Colonel Balu Bharath, Principal, Sainik School and Madhusan Padhi, president of OBA, in the presence of Cdr Dinesh Swain, secretary OBA, Lt Col Amit Tewari, administrative officer, Cdr Manorama Pokheriya, Vice-Principal and senior officials of OMC.
In the senior category, the participants covered a distance of 10 km and in the junior, 6.5 km. B Prasad Dora emerged as the winner followed by Abhishek Kumar in senior category while Vikash was the winner followed by Shivam Yadav YADAV in the junior category.
Akankshya Priya was the winner of the marathon among the girls and Ranjith Sahani the winner in OBA category. They were awarded with cash prizes by the chief guest.
In his address, Cme Rahangdale appealed to the students to work for a clean, green and healthy Bhubaneswar and cooperate in the endeavors of the government. He expressed his happiness for the continued efforts to maintain a clean environment of Sainik School campus.
