Over 2000 Indians Infected By COVID-19 In Gulf Countries
A total of 2,063 Indians are infected by the novel coronavirus in the Gulf countries. This includes 25 Indians who have succumbed to the infection, according to reports.
Of these cases, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, UAE, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia collectively reported 2,061 cases. Meanwhile, Iran also hosts 308 Indians infected by COVID-19.
Despite India having sufficient quarantine facilities to accommodate its citizens, it was decided not to evacuate the affected people as this could lead to community transmission of the virus in the country, a government official said.
Besides, India is yet to respond to the UAE’s offer to evacuate Indians following required medical check-ups.
According to officials, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in touch with the Arab leaders and keeping a track of the health of Indian expatriates in their countries.
Also, the Foreign Ministry had set up a COVID-19 Control Room in March to deal with Indians and their families living abroad.
Apart from the Gulf countries, Singapore is another hotbed of Indians infected from the novel coronavirus.
