New Delhi: The Shramik Special trains have carried over 35 lakh migrants since their operation started on May 1. Till now, 2,600 Shramik Special trains have completed journey.
Joint Secretary, Home Ministry Punya Salila Srivastava said 35 lakh migrants are those who travelled across state borders. Besides them, 10 lakh more migrants availed special trains for intra-state transportation to return home.
In the past four days, 260 trains on an average have transported around 3.5 lakh passengers daily.

The maximum number of trains operated in a single day was on May 20, when 279 trains ferried over four lakh passengers.
Notably, the Railway Ministry had issued guidelines for movement of ‘Shramik Special’ trains to help the return of migrant workers, students, pilgrims, tourists and other people stranded in other states during the current lockdown from May 1 on the occasion of Shramik Divas.
