Over 5 Crore Cases Pending In Courts, 80,000 Of Them In Supreme Court: Law Minister
New Delhi: Over 5 crore cases are pending in several courts across the country, including 80,000 in Supreme Court, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said on Friday.
In a written reply, Meghwal informed the Lok Sabha that as of December 1, out of the 5,08,85,856 pending cases, over 61 lakh were in 25 high courts, reported PTI.
The district and subordinate courts accounted for over 4.46 crore cases.
Meghwal said that the overall sanctioned strength of Indian judiciary was 26,568 judges. The sanctioned strength of Supreme Court is 34 judges, while for high courts 1,114 is the sanctioned number.
The district and subordinate courts have a sanctioned strength of 25,420 judges.
