Bhubaneswar: Continuing the rise, the prices of petrol and diesel on Sunday reached a new high in Odisha in the last 15 days.
With the oil marketing companies (OMCs) continuing to increase the fuel prices, petrol rate went up to Rs 84.05 per litre, while the diesel rose to Rs 80.19 per litre in the petrol pumps in Bhubaneswar on the day. While petrol cost increased by 34 paise compared to Saturday’s Rs 83.71, diesel saw a rise of 32 paise over Rs 79.87.
According to sources, the prices of both the petroleum products saw a hefty rise in the last 15 days. While petrol cost has gone up by Rs 2.21, diesel is costlier by Rs 3.21 compared to their rates on November 20.
The increase has been primarily attributed to firming up of global oil and product prices following news about coronavirus vaccine. Though oil marketing companies were following a daily price revision formula, it was suspended for almost two months during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Petrol prices had remained stagnant since September 22 and diesel rates hadn’t changed since October 2.
On December 24, 2018, the petrol came for Rs 69,86 and diesel Rs 63.83 in the country.
