New Delhi: Former finance minister P Chidambaram will remain in CBI custody till August 26.
The CBI had sought Chidambaram’s custody for five days in the INX media scam case, but a special CBI court in Delhi on Thursday allowed it to take him for four days.
Appearing for the CBI, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told Special Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar that the former Union Minister was not cooperating with the investigating agency and they needed his custody to unearth a “larger conspiracy”.
Chidambaram’s lawyers – Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Manu Singhvi – opposed the CBI plea on the ground that all the other accused, including his son Karti, have already been granted bail in the case, according to a report published by HushPost.
Chidambaram was arrested from his Delhi residence amid high drams on Wednesday night.
