Berhampur: The paddy procurement in Odisha’s Ganjam district has been postponed to next month due to heavy rain in the district.
This was informed by Ganjam collector in an official letter to Food Supply and Consumer Welfare department. “The paddy procurement in different mandis in the district was set to be started in December 23 as per the schedule fixed by the government. But it was delayed due to untimely heavy rain due to depression on the schedule date,” he said in the letter.
Keeping the interest of the farmers and other stakeholders in view, the paddy procurement has been rescheduled to begin from January 3, 2025, the collector said.
It may be noted that paddy crop, which was in harvesting stage, has been damaged due to the untimely rain in some areas of the district.
