Bhubaneswar: Padma awardee Nanda Prusty breathed his last around 1.30 pm at a private hospital in Odisha capital on Tuesday, family sources said.
He had tested positive for COVID and was shifted to SUM hospital in the city from Kalinga Nagar Tata Medical Covid Hospital, jajpur, on Saturday evening after his condition deteriorated.
The 102-year-old teacher, popularly known as Nanda Master, was reportedly undergoing treatment for post-COVID complications.
Notably, he was admitted to Jajpur district headquarters hospital on November 29 following acute pain in the chest.
A native of Kantira village in Jajpur, he had been suffering from fever and cough for the past one month and was initially taken to Sukinda CHC, where doctors referred him to Jajpur.
He was shifted to Tata Medical Covid Hospital at Kalinga Nagar after being diagnosed with COVID on November 30.

Nanda Master was honoured with the Padma Shri on November 9 for his long contribution to the field of education. He was perhaps the last man to keep the tradition of ‘chatashali’ (a non-formal school for primary education in Odisha) alive.
