Panchayat Election: Prohibitory Order Clamped As Villagers Attack Polling Official’s Vehicle In Odisha’s Nuapada

Nuapada: The district administration imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC in a village of the district following the alleged attack on election officials after the end of polling for second phase of panchayat elections on Friday.

According to sources, after the polling was over in Poyer village under Komna block, the election officials were waiting for the bus allocated for polling duty to arrive to go with the sealed ballot boxes and document.

As there was a delay in the arrival of the vehicle, the presiding officer wanted to carry the ballot box in his vehicle to prevent any untoward incident. On coming to know about it, a group of enraged villagers arrived at the spot and attacked his car.

While the polling officials escape without injuries, the villagers smashed the glasses of the presiding officer’s vehicle.

On being informed, police rushed to the spot and rescued the election officials. Later, they also took the ballot box to the block office at Komna. Nobody was arrested in connection with the incident.

As tension prevailed in the area, the district administration imposed Section 144 of the CrPC in the village. Police have been deployed in the area to keep maintain law and order.
