Bhubaneswar: A woman sarpanch candidate in the panchayat elections has literally brought to light the strain and pain involved in electioneering. She is moving with her month-old baby while going for door-to-door campaign.
Mama Sethi, who is contesting from Podapadar panchayat in Ganjam district as sarpanch candidate, has no other means but to take her newborn child while setting out for campaigning.
The women folk of her villager, friends, neighbours have extended a helping hand to her in her endeavour to contest panchayat elections. Undeterred by the pain, she carries her baby with her while canvassing for votes.
Mama said since there was nobody in her house to take care of the child in her absence, she is forced to take the baby with her.
On the hardship taken by her, she told the media that she sincerely wants the panchayat to have an able sarpanch to take up its development works. As Podapadar remains backward till date, she has come out despite the strain to contest the elections so that she can take up its development as sarpanch.
