Panchayat Samiti Member In Odisha’s Ganjam Arrested For Alleged Rape Of Maharashtra Woman

Berhampur: Police on Sunday arrested a panchayat samiti member of Ganjam district for allegedly raping a woman in Maharashtra.

According to police sources, the member of Kanchudu panchayat under Hinjili block, A Sudam had allegedly established physical relationship with the woman on the pretext of marriage and taken lakhs of rupees from her.

As Sudam neither married the woman nor returned the money, she filed a complaint at Manipada police station in Maharashtra. Police registered a case against Sudam under Sections 376, 420, 406, 504 and 506 of CrPC and Section 34 of IPC.

Following preliminary investigation on the basis of the complaint, a two-member team of Maharshtra Police with the help of Hinjili police picked up Sudam from his residence.

Sudam was produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court and taken on transit remand by the Maharashtra Police.
