Bhubaneswar: A paperless registration facility for the treatment of patients will begin soon at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar with the implementation of e-hospital programme, announced Union Minister of State for Health Bharati Pravin Pawar on Sunday.

Alternate arrangements will be made as the premier health institute is witnessing over 10,000 footfalls of patients daily. During her visit to the institute, Pawar suggested various measures, including implementation of e-hospital programme, to address daily huge footfall and patient waiting time for various services.

A patient can access all his medical records online after he logs in and the treating doctor also gets access to the patient’s data with a click when the patient approaches him. A patient can book his appointments for OPD service online, sources said.

When a patient approaches the institute, the doctor already has got all the details of the patient so the patient does not need to carry a file with him.

Besides, the online prescription provided by the doctor will have the doctor’s digital signature as well as all his details and a patient can get medicine from any pharmacy by showing this electronic prescription.

It is pertinent to mention here that AIIMS, Rajkot developed a mobile app called ‘Swasthya App’ that makes the entire treatment process for a patient paperless in June this year.

During her visit, Dr Pawar inaugurated a multi-utility building on the premises of the institute for different welfare facilities.

In the presence of AIIMS Bhubaneswar Executive Director Dr Ashutosh Biswas, faculty members and senior officials, she had an extensive review meeting over the functioning of the institute.

Appreciating the efforts of AIIMS Bhubaneswar for providing quality health care with various state-of-art facilities, Pawar further emphasised the need for an organised patient referral service system at various levels of the health care service system.

To build such a type of robust patient referral criterion, there needs to be a collaborative approach between AIIMS and other state-run health care institutions citing the example of effective COVID management during pandemic through a sound referral system across the country. She also took a review of various academic, research, recruitment, financial and other aspects of AIIMS.
