Puri: Six-year-old Ashis Biswal of Garoditota village under Lataharana Panchayat in Kakatpur is bed-ridden and unable to move or talk like other children of his age. The child was diagnosed with paralysis when he was barely a few months old.
His mother, Saraswati Biswal said Asish suddenly stopped crying after some months of birth. He was taken to a private hospital for treatment where the doctors suggested an operation at the age of 12 but were apprehensive of his regaining normal mental health.
“At the hospital and a pipe was installed in his head and a few days later he suffered from paralysis. He could not even speak,” she added. He has a hole in the nerves of his head and needs an operation, Saraswati added.
His father, Galekha, a daily wage labourer said they need Rs 20-25 lakh for operation. Making ends meet with meagre financial resources, the family has sought help from the state government for the treatment of their son.
“My son has problem both in spinal cord and brain. Doctors have said that Rs 20 lakh to Rs 25 lakh is necessary for his treatment. We have explored all possibilities on our part by taking him to hospitals like AIIMS, SUM and even Olatpur for physiotherapy but all failed to treat him. I request the government to help me financially. I want to see my son walking and playing,” said Saraswati.
