Parents’ Body Moves OHRC For Online Education Of Poor Students In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Concerned over the plight of the poor students who are deprived of online education, the Odisha Abhibhabak Mahasangh on Wednesday moved the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC).

The Mahasangh, in a petition to the OHRC, said that out of 60 lakh students in the state, 22 lakh have availed the online education while the remaining 38 lakh poor and under-privileged students are deprived of the facility.

“As this has deprived the students, their parents and guardians of their Right To Education, the Mahasangh has requested the Commission to direct the state government to facilitate online education to them. Since they have a poor financial background, the state government should provide them smartphones and laptops to enable them to avail online education,” chairman of the Mahasangh Basudev Bhatt told the media here.

He also said that the Mahasangh has appealed to the Commission to direct the government to form a committee to assess the standard of the students.
