Hyderabad: In a shocking and unheard of crime, an Andhra Pradesh couple allegedly killed their two young daughters with dumbbells in their three-storeyed house in Chittoor district.
Police officials, who arrived at the crime scene after being alerted by family friends, said the double murder is most likely linked to occult practices and beliefs.
Quizzed by cops, the parents claimed they could bring their daughters Alekhya (27) and Sai Divya (23) back to life if they are given some more time.
Police found the two women, wearing red saris, lying in a pool of blood with their heads smashed, most likely with dumbbells.
The family was leant to have participated in a ritual, hours before the killings on Sunday evening, NDTV reported.
The highly superstitious parents allegedly believed that their daughters were possessed by some evil spirit.
“The scene of crime suggests some rituals were carried out… the women were clad in red sarees and the parents appeared to be highly delusional,” police officer M Chidananda Reddy told NDTV.
While Alekhya recently resigned from her job in Bhopal to prepare for civil services exam, Sai Divya was pursuing post-graduate music course at Chennai-based AR Rahman institute.
Neighbours told police the sisters had returned home during the nationwide lockdown and that no one had been allowed inside the house for months.
