New Delhi: The ongoing monsoon session of parliament may end before October 1, NDTV reported sources as saying. The matter will be taken up at the Lok Sabha Business Advisory Committee meeting this evening.
The safety of MPs is at stake after three of them who had attended the session tested positive for coronavirus earlier this week. Their reports in the earlier tests were negative.
The government is trying to build a consensus by having a discussion with the opposition. Many opposition parties are also in favour of winding up the session, NDTV reported.
The government wants to clear 11 ordinances in parliament before ending the session. So far, the Lok Sabha has passed only three bills linked to the agriculture sector. Both the Houses have cleared an ordinance to cut by 30 per cent the salaries of the members of parliament to save funds for the country’s fight against the pandemic, NDTV reported.
