New Delhi: Passenger traffic movement at Jharsuguda airport has crossed the 10,000 mark in the first month of its operation itself.
According to latest data released by Airport Authority of India (AAI), passenger movement in April at Veer Surendra Sai (VSS) airport stood at 10,507.
The figure indicated a robust passenger growth for the airport, which was
inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in September last year. No frills airline SpiceJet was the first to start operations from the city airport on March 31 this year.
Talking to mediapersons earlier, VSS airport director S.K. Chauhan had said that flights between Jharsuguda to Delhi and between Delhi to Jharsuguda had grown by 95 per cent and 93 per cent respectively.
There was also about 70 per cent average air traffic growth between Hyderabad and Jharsuguda and back, while the average occupancy from Kolkata to Jharsuguda and back was 60 per cent during the same period.
Biju Patnaik Airport, Bhubaneswar:
As per the AAI data, the city airport saw 2.2 per cent growth in passenger traffic during April compared to the same period last year.
In all, the airport handled 3.35 lakh passengers (both domestic and international) movement as compared to 3.28 lakh during the same period last year.
Bhubaneswar today is counted among the top 10 international airports in the country operated by AAI in terms of passenger volume. In the 2018-19 fiscal, the airport crossed the 4 million milestones.
In April, international passenger movement from the airport registered was 7457.
