Bhubaneswar: The sight of smoke emanating from under the air-conditioned coaches of Bhubaneswar-Sonepur Intercity Express on Wednesday morning spread panic among the passengers for a brief while.
The incident took place near the Mancheswar railway station.
The passenger alerted railway officials, who swiftly responded to the situation. The train was halted for nearly 30 minutes for necessary inspections and the issue, known as ‘brake binding’ in railway engineering parlance, was resolved.
After ensuring the safety of the affected coach, the train resumed its onward journey without further disruption, sources said.
Confirming the incident, a spokesperson for East Coast Railways said: “The swift actions of our train operators ensured the safety of all passengers, and services were restored promptly. All safety protocols were followed to prevent any untoward incident.”
