New Delhi: In a unique protest, passengers staged a dharna on the runway of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport on Thursday.
IndiGo flight 6E-360 departed for Darbhanga from Delhi, but the aircraft returned to IGI airport shortly after take-off.
According to sources, the Delhi-Darbhanga flight was initially delayed due to weather conditions in the Delhi-NCR region.
The flight was later cancelled, infuriating passengers.
Some of them sat on the runway, and sought an explanation for the cancellation. They refused to move until alternate arrangements were made. Airport security staff persuaded the protesting group to leave the runway, hence the dharna didn’t last long.
According to IndiGo officials, the cancellation of the flight was due to the combined impact of poor weather in Delhi, and due to operational timing limits and landing restrictions at Darbhanga airport.
The airline offered passengers options to reschedule, take an alternate flight, or claim full refund. Refreshments were also provided to the passengers.
