Singapore: Passengers were stranded in Singapore after an Air India flight to Chennai was cancelled on Sunday due to technical reasons. Flight AI349 from, being operated with an Airbus A321, was found to have a maintenance issue before departure that needed more time to fix.
Arrangements are being made to fly the affected passengers to Chennai as soon as possible, Air India said in a statement. To reduce the inconvenience, the airline also offered hotel stays to stranded passengers. It has also provided full refunds for cancellations or complimentary rescheduling, depending on what the passengers prefer.
In its official statement, Air India said: “Our team in Singapore is doing everything possible to support and assist the passengers during this unexpected situation.”
Air India came under the scanner ever since the June 12 Ahmedabad crash of a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner that was on its way to Gatwick in London. Flight AI-171 crashed within seconds after take-off from Ahmedabad, killing 260 people, including 241 passengers and crew.
On July 31, Air India flight AI2017 from Delhi to London was delayed after the aircraft had to abort take-off due to a suspected technical issue. The cockpit crew, following standard safety procedures, returned the plane to the parking bay for a detailed inspection.
An alternative aircraft was arranged to take the passengers to London, and ground staff were deployed to assist them. Air India said it remains committed to passenger safety and is doing everything to minimise delays.
In the last few days, multiple Air India flights have faced technical problems. The airline maintains that it is working towards resolving these issues.
