‘Pathaan’ Controversy: Will Burn Shah Rukh Khan Alive, Threatens Ayodhya Seer

Lucknow: After threats to ban the upcoming film ‘Pathaan’ from multiple quarters, the controversy over the song ‘Besharam Rang’ took a new turn on Wednesday.

Describing Pathaan’s lead star Shah Rukh Khan as a ‘jihadi’, Ayodhya seer Paramhans Acharya threatened to burn him alive.

“Today we burnt his posters. The movie Paathan has insulted the saffron colour. If I find jihadi Shah Rukh Khan anywhere, I will burn him alive,” the seer is heard saying in a video.

Last year, Paramhans Acharya made had announced he would resort to Jal Samadhi (water burial) unless India is declared a Hindu Rashtra. He later withdrew his decision.

Several BJP leaders, including Madhya Pradesh Home minister Narottam Mishra, spoke against Deepika Padukone’s saffron attire and ‘objectionable’ scenes in the song, saying that the film won’t be allowed to be released in MP unless action was taken.

Mahant Raju Das, the priest of Hanuman Garhi, appealed to people to burn down theatres where ‘Pathaan’ will be released.

“Bollywood and Hollywood always attempt to make fun of the Sanatan religion. The way saffron has been used by Deepika Padukone as a bikini is hurtful to us. What was the necessity to wear saffron as bikini? I appeal to people to boycott the movie. Burn down the theatres where the movie will be screened because otherwise they will not understand. You have to be evil to counter evil,” Das said.

Several complaints have been filed against the song alleging that Deepika’s saffron bikini hurts Hindu sentiments.

The Siddharth Anand-helmed film, which stars John Abraham besides Shah Rukh-Deepika, is scheduled to hit the theatres on January 25, 2023.
