Cuttack: An alarming rise in COVID-19 positive cases have stalled patient care at the SCB Medical College & Hospital here.
An average of 20 patients have tested positive for coronavirus at the hospital in the last four days. Among those infected are three medical personnel, according to Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC).
All but a few of the 37 departments in the hospital have failed to counter the pandemic situation. So much so that the hospital authorities have put their hands up.
“We have informed the government about the coronavirus infections in the hospital. It will be up to the government to decide. We cannot do anything else at this level. Who will treat patients if doctors are infected in all departments?” said Dr Annada Patnaik, Superintendent and Supervising Professor of SCB Medical.
The hospital is considering reducing the number of patient admissions if the situation is not brought under control soon.
“We have advised the SCB superintendent to cut off OPDs in the department where the highest number of infections are being detected,” said CMC Commissioner Ananya Das.
