Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court has observed that there was no conclusive proof about use of Pegasus spyware in 29 mobile phones examined by technical committee appointed by it.

Chief Justice NV Ramana read the report of the committee in the open court on Thursday. The report stated that five phones were found to be affected by some malware but it is not sure if it was Pegasus.

A bench headed by the CJI scrutinised the report on Pegasus submitted by a court-appointed panel headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice RV Raveendran.

The apex court, in its order on October 27, 2021, had constituted a technical committee to investigate and determine certain matters related to the complaint of unauthorised use of Pegasus spyware.

However, the committee submitted that the government did not cooperate in the investigation. It also recommended formulation of laws to protect the citizens from illegal surveillance by any authorities.
