Mumbai: A tense moment inside a residential tower in Mumbai’s Malad West has reignited concerns over pet safety in shared spaces after CCTV footage showed a pet dog suddenly lunging at three young girls inside a lift.
The incident took place at the Sheth Irene residential high-rise, where a woman entered the elevator with her leashed pet dog while three girls were already inside. Moments later, the dog turned aggressive, repeatedly lunging towards the children, who were seen backing away in fear and pressing themselves against the lift walls as the owner struggled to restrain the animal.
According to India Today, the girls escaped without serious injuries, but the incident has triggered widespread concern among residents and on social media over the handling of pets in common areas. Reports said several residents questioned why the dog was not wearing a muzzle despite being in a shared residential space.
The CCTV clip has since gone viral, prompting renewed debate over responsible pet ownership, including the use of leashes and muzzles in apartment complexes. While many defended pet owners, others stressed that adequate precautions are necessary to ensure the safety of children and other residents in enclosed common areas.
There were no reports of serious injuries in the incident, but the footage has intensified calls for stricter enforcement of safety guidelines for pets in residential buildings.
