New Delhi: A member of the recently-banned Popular Front of India (PFI) has threatened in a letter that prominent Hindu temples like Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir and Krishna Janmabhoomi mandir in Mathura will be targeted, and also mentioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other politicians as being on the radar.
Vijay Deshmukh, a BJP MLA from Maharashtra, has filed a police complaint after allegedly receiving a ‘sar tan se juda’ threat letter from PFI leader Mohd Shafi Birajdar.
Deshmukh’s FIR states that Birajdar has threatened to attack Ayodhya and Mathura temples with suicide bombers, while Modi and many prominent leaders are on their radar. The legislator has also stated that Birajdar has threatened to decapitate him.
Maharashtra police has launched a probe, and is first trying to check the veracity of the letter.
The Central government last month banned PFI and eight of its subsidiaries and partner groups in the country for five years for its anti-India activities and alleged links with terrorist groups like ISIS, Jamat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) and SIMI.
Various central agencies conducted thorough raids and searches on several locations across the country and unearthed links between terrorist organizations and PFI.
