Berhampur: Upset over inordinate delay by officials to resolve his grievance, a physically challenged person consumed poison in front of the Collector and SP at a grievance redressal camp at Digapahandi in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Monday.
The man was identified as Balakrushna Dora from Patand village. He was rushed to the MKCG Medical College & Hospital in a critical condition.
Ganjam Collector Dibya Jyoti Parida and Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M were attending the camp at the conference hall of Digapahandi Block Office when the incident took place, according to media reports.
Dora consumed pesticide alleging inaction by officials to demarcate his land, occupied by his neighbour, despite repeated requests.
According to one media report, Dora had written to Governor Ganeshi Lal that the demarcation of his land was not being done as he had failed to bribe the concerned Revenue Inspector (RI).
