Paris: Legendary fashion designer Pierre Cardin died at the age 98 at American Hospital of Paris on Tuesday, according to AFP.
France’s Fine Arts Academy informed this in a Twitter statement.
Known for his Space-Age designs and visionary creations, was son of Italian immigrants. Born on 2 July 1922 he was the last of 11 children.
In a career spanning more than three-quarters of a century, he introduced ready-to-wear collections, making high fashion accessible to the middle classes.
He founded his fashion house in 1950 and introduced the famous bubble dress in 1954 that was a worldwide triumph. He also revolutionised fashion styles in the 1960s and 70s with futuristic looks and designs.
Cardin also ventured into other business and today we see a range of products such as sunglasses, perfumes by the brand name.
