New Delhi: On a day when ‘Adipurush’ opened to packed theatres across the country, a PIL was filed in Delhi High Court against the Om Raut-directed film starring Prabhas and Kriti Sanon.
According to petitioner Vishnu Gupta, national president of the Hindu Sena, the mega-budget movie has hurt the sentiments of Hindu community as it mocks Ramayana, Lord Rama and “our culture”.
The plea alleges that depictions of Ram, Ravana, Sita and Hanuman are inaccurate and inappropriate in the film, and seeks directions to remove or rectify objectionable scenes related to the deities.
“The depiction of characters is contrary to the description of Hindu religious characters, as described in the Ramayana, authored by Maharishi Valmiki and in the Ramcharitmanas authored by Saint Tulsidas,” the plea says.
The PIL has also raised objections to the bearded character Ravana, played by Saif Ali Khan.
“Hindu Brahmin Ravana is shown making a ghastly face in a wrong manner which is an absolute insult to Hindu civilisation,” the petitioner said, adding that scenes related to Ravana are an absolute distortion of facts.
