Pipili cracker unit blast: 6-year-old girl succumbs to burns

Pipili: A six-year-old girl, who suffered grievous burn injuries in an explosion at a firecracker unit at Bilipada near Pipili in Puri district on Wednesday, succumbed while undergoing treatment at Capital Hospital here.

The minor girl was identified as Pragnyarani Behera. Four others identified as Reshma Behera, Amit Behera, Sidhant Behera and Tulu Behera have lost their eyesight. They were referred to AIIMS Bhubaneswar and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for better treatment, a doctor at Capital Hospital said.

The victims were engaged in making crackers when the blast took place. The reason behind the mishap is yet to be ascertained.
