Puri: Police on Wednesday arrested a 76-year-old man for allegedly trying to rape his daughter-in-law at Satasankha village near Pipili in Puri district.
The accused, Panchu Mallik, was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by the 32-year-old woman on Sunday night. The woman, who has 12-year-old son, also submitted a video of the purported crime as proof.
The Pipli JMFC court has remanded the accused to 14 days of judicial custody.
According to sources, the complainant’s husband works with railways and is posted outside the state. Taking advantage of the situation, her father-in-law outraged her modesty several times. She had complained about it to her husband, but in vain.
The woman further alleged that she was physically and mentally tortured by her husband, mother-in-law and brother-in-law.
