Mumbai: Actor Ranveer Singh’s spy-thriller ‘Dhurandhar’, which was banned in Pakistan during its theatrical run, is available in the country’s pirated markets and is reportedly being sold for as little as PKR 50 (approximately Rs 16).
The development came to light after New Zealand-based YouTuber Karl Rock shared a video documenting pirated DVDs of the film being openly sold at Rainbow Centre in Karachi.
In the video, Karl is seen walking through the market when he spots a copy of the recently released film at a local shop.
“Indian films are banned in Pakistan, but look what I found,” he said, while showing the film’s poster on a screen.
When he enquires about the price, the shopkeeper quotes PKR 50, prompting Karl to remark, “Bahut sasta. (very cheap)”
Indian films have remained absent in Pakistani theatres in recent years due to political tensions between the two countries.
However, ‘Dhurandhar’ became accessible to audiences in Pakistan following its release on Netflix in January.
The film reportedly secured the No. 1 spot on Netflix’s Global Top 10 Non-English Films list, and also ranked first in both India and Pakistan.
Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film features an ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, and Rakesh Bedi.
Set in Karachi’s Lyari neighbourhood, the story revolves around covert intelligence operations against the backdrop of major geopolitical events.
The film’s sequel,’ Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge’, is scheduled to hit theatres on March 19.
