Cuttack: The Odisha government on Thursday sought more time for filing a detailed report in the Orissa High Court on a petition objecting to acquisition of land belonging to Shailabala Women’s Autonomous College for the Maa Cuttack Chandi Temple Redevelopment Project.
The HC set the next hearing of the case on July 19.
The state government plans to use a part of the playground of the college for the temple beautification project.
According to the petition, the college, established in 1913, stands to lose a major portion of its playground, which is spread over three acres, and also a newly constructed four-storey hostel building.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has approved a budget of Rs 70 crore for the redevelopment of the Maa Cuttack Chandi Temple.
The project will be taken up under the integrated development of heritage, monuments and tourist destination scheme of 5T initiative.
