Bhubaneswar: While a carnival-like atmosphere has engulfed Odisha ahead of the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast pleasant weather conditions during the matches to be played at Kalinga & Birsa Munda Stadia in Bhubaneswar & Rourkela respectively from January 13.
The cold wave, which was sweeping the state for the last few days, has receded and the night temperature is likely to rise by 2 to 3 degree Celsius during the next 2 days, the MeT office said in its mid-day bulletin on Wednesday.
The weather maintained that the state would host the event in pleasant weather.
Cuttack city, which is hosting the opening ceremony of the quadrennial event this evening, saw fog in the early morning hours following which the sky cleared up. Shallow to moderate fog is likely at one or two places in Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Puri, Ganjam and Kandhamal till 8.30 am on Thursday. Foggy conditions are expected in Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Bolangir, Sonepur, Angul, Sambalpur, Dhenkanal and Cuttack in the subsequent 24 hours. Shallow to moderate fog may occur in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Kandhamal and Kalahandi between 8.30 am on Friday to 8.30 am on Saturday, it added.

Notably, Rourkela recorded 7.8 degree Celsius while the mercury dropped to 13.4 degree Celsius and 13.5 degree Celsius respectively in the last 24 hours.
